Admissions & Availability:

  • We strive to help every family who reaches out, and work to ensure that our staffing, skills and resources can safely accommodate your child, if we cannot safely meet your child's needs, we will communicate openly and assist in connecting your family with trusted community referrals
  • We often must implement a waitlist process, so we ask that families be diligent in letting us know if they do not need their reserved slot

Ongoing and Transitional Support:

  • If you are needing ongoing support for childcare while you work, we will assist you with Best Beginnings Childcare Scholarship, Head Start/Early Head start enrollment and other community resources and as your crisis stabilizes, we will transition you to other safe childcare settings
  • We try to support our families even after transitioning to other childcare settings-by helping when their childcare is closed, providing help with diapers and wipes, and providing respite care when needed

If your family is experiencing a crisis, Toby’s House is here to help. We provide a safe, caring place for your child while you take the time you need to address what is happening at home.

What is Crisis, Emergency Respite, & Respite Care?

What is Crisis, Emergency Respite, & Respite Care?

What is Crisis, Emergency Respite, & Respite Care?

Crisis Care is the moment when there is a situation occurring that a child should not be seeing/hearing/experiencing.  If you are in an emergency situation, please call 911.. If there is a medical or mental health or other situation escalating, or you think it may, or if you yourself are close to feeling out of control, please call us.

If you are going to confront a loved one, and there is any chance of your child witnessing arguing, yelling, or experiencing domestic violence, please call us, even if you are unsure of what a reaction will be. We will help you in planning for safety and ensuring children are able to be kids while you sort things out.

Respite childcare provides a scheduled break when caregivers need it, Respite care allows them to attend appointments, attend to errands, and care for themselves before things become overwhelming.

Respite care is especially useful for families dealing with chronic stress or don't have family living near by or limited options for a break. Toby's House helps even when a child has medical, developmental or behavioral issues whenever possible.

Respite is Recharging.

Emergency Respite care is crisis care for caregivers finding themselves near or at a breaking point. Toby's House provides immediate support and intervention without judgment, giving caregivers the crucial time they need to decompress and get help in the moment. We believe that parents and caregivers needing emergency respite love their child deeply. We know that little stressors pile on all day, all week, all month-and everyone gets to the moment where they feel overwhelmed, frustrated, and at a loss for what to do next.

If you’re overwhelmed to the point of fearing for your child’s safety, emergency respite care keeps children safe and helps with resources for parents and caregivers to manage stress and explore other options for regular respite.

What is Temporary & Transitional Childcare?

What is Crisis, Emergency Respite, & Respite Care?

What is Crisis, Emergency Respite, & Respite Care?

Temporary childcare is a short-term solution for families who are in the moment of being in-between, or the 'messy middle,' as we call it. It may be a life transition, a caregiver getting ill or having surgery, getting emergency custody of a child, or any number of situations. The urgency is typically not being able to miss work, having to get ready to move, or having a legal appointment. Sometimes the end date is known, and other times, there is a little chaos, and it takes a little longer to figure out. Toby's House is not intended to be your child's primary daycare permanently, and as your situation stabilizes, staff will help you identify a longer-term childcare plan. Toby's House works with other community partners to address common 'gaps' in childcare services and advocates for early childhood solutions.

Transitional childcare is often short-term childcare for caregivers in the process of securing long-term childcare arrangements. This service is particularly helpful for parents who are on a waiting list for a permanent childcare provider, unexpectedly started a new job and still exploring their options, or are working through childcare scholarship or enrollment in Head Start/Early Head Start. During this period, transitional childcare offers a safe and nurturing environment for children. It’s a reliable way to ensure your kids are well taken care of while you work out the details of a more permanent solution. Think of it as a bridge that helps your family move smoothly from one childcare setting to another, without disrupting your child’s routine or well-being.
